this is a true story.
2nd grade teacher mrs. brotherson: where is chase?
girl in my 2nd grade class: chase isn't back yet because he is trying to get goosebumps.
me: it's not that hard, you just stand outside when it is cold.
girl in my 2nd grade class: not those goosebumps. the books.
me: {quickly walks away and probably never talks to her again}
do you remember book fairs?
giving up your recess and just browsing bookshelves?
did you see crayon shaped erasers that you needed to purchase for no apparent reason?
also bookmarks?
did your mom allow you to buy one book and it was impossible to decide which?
do you still own those books after all this time?
perhaps you won the book stone soup in the only known contest you have won in this life?
*you probably don't remember this last one because it definitely happened to me, not you*
well.
my little friend hans was late leaving school because he was at a book fair.
it's hard to be angry at a kid who likes books.
even if you waited a half hour in the car.
this is because i specifically remember a time when i did the same thing.
dah. i love book fairs.
sidenote: there are riots in jerusalem on a street i walked every day i lived there.
it is incomprehensible.
so...
from their grafitti-ing hands to your computer let it be known

I LOOOVE book fairs.
Also, since you asked, the YA lit class is Engl 320R. Try to take it with Carol Lych Williams (but I think maybe she's not teaching this fall) but you can also take it with Anne Dee Ellis and it will be great.
Aaand, if you're interested, you can join our weekly writing group. We meet on Tuesday nights and we only do YA lit.
:)
Second comment: Shoot me an email at rebeccah.louise@gmail.com and I'll send you writing group info.
It;s the best thing ever to be in a writing group.
I was the same way. Except I loved getting those book order things (honestly, that is the worst way of describing them, I just can't remember the name!) and you'd fill them out and order the books you'd like?! I remember when they came to school and I got mine I was as happy as a kid could be.
As for the picture, I agree. Reading the newspaper every morning reminds me of that.
And lastly - haha, I was in the heat of the moment yesterday. Spring Break vs. Winning first game in the tournament...
You're probably right, haha. For sure.
I most definitely agree: with the book fairs and with the peace. Well said.
Okay, maybe we're talking of two different soup stone contests...but I had one in the first grade about a book where they make soup with stones. And we had soup with ONE stone...and if you got the stone in your bowl of soup, you won...and I got the stone.
Same, same?
I love book fairs! Oh the memories. Did you ever order form those book catalogs they gave you at school? Oh fond memories. Thanks for bringing them back.
p.s. Don't forget to enter my GIVEAWAY at itssimplelove.blogspot.com for Peruvian Feather Earrings!
