today I'm grateful for...

Enough heat that I need only a sweater.
No scarf, gloves, or thick coat.
Just a sweater to keep out the chill.

I'm grateful because the heat won't last long,
and I take advantage of it while I can.

I walk swiftly to class and feel frigid air on my bare forearms.
I run outside, playing cops and bad guys, warming my blood as I flee the law.
I almost sit to rest and think, but then think better of it.
Sitting allows the cold to sink in, and this I avoid at all costs.
Instead, I walk on.
 I will run.
I will skip, jump.
Today I will do anything but stand still.
I am fleeing the cold until the last possible moment,
and this one more day of warmth has my gratitude.

Oh how I love you and your poetic-ness. Let's be friends when I get back, yeah? And we'll talk all about Jerusalem because no one else will want to hear it.
